Celebrate--for God Will Be Great in 2008

    Tuesday, February 5, 2008

"Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom also we have access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God." (Romans 5:1-2 NKJ)

We celebrate when we honor, praise or commend someone or something. In our society we celebrate the victory of our favorite team. We might celebrate someoneís birthday, giving honor to them. It is good to celebrate! It is best to celebrate the most honorable Being, or to celebrate the greatest accomplishment ever brought forth.

When we celebrate the name of God, we are commending Him for His character or His nature. The names of God most often describe His character or His desires, or the ways He wants to make Himself known to us. We can celebrate God, whose name is holy. We can celebrate God, whose name is Shepherd, Redeemer or Savior. We can also celebrate what God has done.

Jesus suffered on the cross for us. He bore our sins and allowed the people of the world to beat Him and mock Him. We deserve these things from the world because we have lied to and sinned against the people of the world. Jesus allowed Satan to have his way with Him and to use people to crucify Him. We have given in to the ways and desires of Satan and thus deserve to have him inflict pain on us. Jesus on the cross bore our sins and suffered the wrath of His Father against us. He was put into hell, the place of eternal death and separation from God. We deserved to go there because we have chosen to live apart from the righteous and holy ways of God. Jesus cried out, "My God, why have you forsaken Me?" He knew His time in hell would only be temporary; that His Father would be satisfied when He saw the anguish of His soul. Jesus on the cross overcame our sinful ways, when they were laid on Him. He did not sin, even when bearing our sinful ways in His body. We can truly celebrate our God and what His Son accomplished on the cross!

Jesus did what He did on the cross so that He can now do what He is doing as our High Priest in heaven. He now has the authority to take our sins from us. He now has the power to bring His life into us. This is the grace of God that Paul is speaking about in the above passage. We can stand in the grace of God. We can receive empowerment from Jesus to have victory over the sinful ways of our flesh and this world and over the prince of the "ways of this world," Satan. We can walk in the power of the Holy Spirit, as Jesus did, and show the love and power of God to a lost and dying world. Let us rejoice and celebrate the victory of Christ. Let us celebrate the ways, the nature and the character of our Heavenly Father who sent His Son to do this for us. LET US CELEBRATE OUR GOD AND HE WILL BE GREAT IN 2008!

Father, we rejoice in You and in Your ways and Your character. Help us to remember to celebrate what Jesus has done. Truly You will be great in 2008! How great is our God! Amen.

Celebrate--for God Will Be Great in 2008

    Monday, February 11, 2008

"Arise, shine; for your light has come! And the glory of the LORD is risen upon you. For behold, the darkness shall cover the earth, and deep darkness the people; but the LORD will arise over you, and His glory will be seen upon you." (Isaiah 60:1-2 NKJ)

We celebrate when we honor, praise or commend someone or something. We might celebrate the victory of our favorite team or the birthday of a friend or family member. It is good to celebrate! Best of all is to celebrate the most honorable Being or the greatest accomplishment of all time.

We can also celebrate when we know what God is doing. We see the darkness of sin and evil increasing on the earth. When all we see or hear about is the increasing presence and activities of darkness, we can become distressed and hopeless. But when we become aware that above the workings of this present darkness, our God is working, we can rejoice and we can celebrate. The above passage tells us to rejoice amidst the darkness because God is calling His people to arise. He is making His presence and power available to and in His people so they can arise and shine as lights amidst the darkness. He promises to reveal His glory amidst the workings and presence of darkness in the world.

How will God do this? He will reveal the glories of the presence of His Son, living in His people. The light and power of Christ living in us will come forth in an ever-greater measure in the days of darkness. The glory of God will be revealed as He shows Himself mighty in His people during times of darkness. The Bible says, "Ö the mystery which has been hidden from ages and from generations, but now has been revealed to His saints. To them God willed to make known what are the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles: which is Christ in you, the hope of glory" (Colossians 1:26-27 NKJ).

God revealed His ability to show forth His light and glory in a human, when Jesus was transfigured before His disciples just before His crucifixion. He has promised to show His light and glory in His people before Jesus returns. This is what we can receive from Him. Jesus will come into His people and cleanse and purify them. He will cleanse His temple--the heart of His people. We will be able to be filled with His light and His nature so that the Holy Spirit can empower and enlighten us, as He did Christ. We can celebrate what our God will do, even as we see the darkness increasing. As we look to Jesus, we will be changed from one degree of glory into another. The Bible says, "But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord" (2 Corinthians 3:18 NKJ). Let us celebrate, for God will be great in 2008!

Father, we rejoice in You and in Your plan to fill us with Your glory through Christ living in us. Help us to receive Jesus into all of our being and to let Him cleanse and empower us so His light can truly shine forth from us into all the world. Amen.

Celebrate--for God Will Be Great in 2008

"Arise, shine; for your light has come! And the glory of the LORD is risen upon you. For behold, the darkness shall cover the earth, and deep darkness the people; but the LORD will arise over you, and His glory will be seen upon you." (Isaiah 60:1-2 NKJ)

We have celebrations to honor, praise or commend people, events or institutions. Many kinds of celebrations are common in our society. God called His people to celebrate His activity in their lives. Celebration is good! It is best to celebrate the most honorable Being or the greatest accomplishment of all time.

We can celebrate when we see God giving us supernatural wisdom, revelation and strength in difficult situations. We like to see great manifestations of Godís power, which often result in signs and wonders being displayed. These things can be faith-building as well as a real testimony to non-believers of the reality of the love and presence of God.

Sometimes we see God move in a much more quiet, yet truly real way. Recently we received a call from Jim (name changed). He was under much pressure in his business. He was being asked to work long hours under pressure. He was also being asked to do some tasks that were beneath his level of ability, and could be done by someone less advanced than he was. Nonetheless, Jim was being asked to do these things. He was also asked to be one of those from his office to interface with another client. The representative from this other office was very angry and embittered and extremely difficult to get along with.

When we prayed with Jim, he was able to receive grace from God to endure the pressure--filled long hours. He was given grace to forgive those who were misusing his talents. He later reported that he was through the pressure-filled time and now had peace and saw the grace that he was given. Jim also reported that the "angry" client from the other office commented to Jimís superior how pleasant and fulfilling it was to work with Jim. The "angry" client specifically stated that he only wanted to deal with Jim in the days ahead.

We can shine in all situations, receiving grace from God to do what is right when we are being misused and mistreated. Even "heathen" people will be drawn to us, by the life of Christ in us and the grace of God empowering that life. Truly nations will come to our light and kings to the brightness of His arising in us. We truly can celebrate in 2008 for God will be great!

Father, we rejoice in You and in Your life in us through Christ. Help us to be lights in all situations, and to remember we can do all things through Christ and live in the power of Your Spirit. You are great and merciful, and You enable us to be Your witnesses in the world of darkness. Amen.
