God is Offering us Righteousness and Strength

    Monday, March 10, 2008

"He shall say, 'Surely in the LORD I have righteousness and strength.' To Him men shall come, and all shall be ashamed who are incensed against Him." (Isaiah 45:24 NKJ)

God is righteous. He loves us. He enjoys being righteous and loves to do righteous things. He has the desire and strength in Himself to live in righteousness. Heaven is a righteous place where His will is fully manifested and followed, and only righteous actions are done. All who live there love righteousness. They are happy living in a righteous place. There is perfect peace and harmony in heaven because righteousness is loved, sought, and acted out. God wants us to be there.

Jesus came from heaven. He was God. He loved righteousness and loved living in a righteous place. He became a man like us. He still was God, but now was weak like us. He still loved righteousness. Now He needed strength from God to live righteously while on the earth. The Holy Spirit empowered Him, giving Him the strength to do righteous things. He gave Jesus the strength to be righteous as a child. He empowered Jesus to do supernatural things when He became an adult and began His ministry, doing righteous acts of healing the sick and casting out demonic spirits that had molested, abused and held people captive. God's righteous judgment for those who came to Jesus was that they should experience His love and mercy. His Father therefore gave Jesus the power to do the righteous actions of healing and delivering people. He loved righteousness. God gave Him the power to do righteous things.

Jesus desires that we too should be righteous. He knows that we have sinful desires in us, having been born with them. He knows that we have done unrighteous things and have hurt people. He knows that we deserve to be punished by God for what we have done to others. He knows that we deserve to be separated from God eternally because we have chosen to live apart from the righteous ways of God's righteous heaven. Jesus became our substitutionary sacrifice so that God could put our unrighteous desires and behavior on Him and He could be punished for us. He suffered at the hands of people, at the hands of Satan and at the hands of His Father for us. He was punished and went into hell with our sins. He left them there. He was raised by God from hell and from the dead. Now He lives in heaven.

Jesus still loves righteousness. Now he can bring His righteous ways into us, by living in us. By receiving His life into us and confessing our sins, we can be cleansed from our sinful ways and they can be removed from us. We can be changed by having our old ways removed and by having God's righteous ways brought into us. The Holy Spirit can empower us so that we love God's righteous ways and do them through the power of the Holy Spirit. The Bible says, "He [God] made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him" (2 Corinthians 5:21 NKJ).

Many people are angry with God. Some do not feel He is righteous. Some do not love righteousness. Some feel bound by unrighteous desires. God is able to give people the knowledge of the truth that He is righteous, that they can receive His righteous character into themselves, and that they can be freed from the unrighteous ways of their old nature, of Satan and of the world. God is willing and able to do all this for us. Jesus reigns so that this can be a reality in our lives. The Holy Spirit has been given to impart these truths into all of our being. We can know that "IN THE LORD WE HAVE RIGHTEOUSNESS AND STRENGTH." Hallelujah!

Father, we believe that You are righteous. We rejoice that You have provided the way for us to be righteous by having Your righteousness in us. Help us to bring Your righteousness into this earth. Amen.

God is Offering us Righteousness and Strength

"He shall say, 'Surely in the LORD I have righteousness and strength.' To Him men shall come, and all shall be ashamed who are incensed against Him." (Isaiah 45:24 NKJ)

God, who loves us, is righteous. He enjoys being righteous and loves to do righteous things. He has the desire and strength in Himself to live in righteousness. Heaven is a righteous place where God's will is fully manifested and followed, and only righteous things are done. All who live there love righteousness and are happy living in a righteous place. There is perfect peace and harmony in heaven because all who live there love, seek, and act out righteousness. God wants us to be there. God created us to be like Him.

When Jesus became a man, He lived righteously. He was empowered by the Holy Spirit so that He could carry out His righteous desires. Now Jesus is our heavenly High Priest, able to impart His righteous nature into us so that we too can want to do righteous things as He did. As our Heavenly King, Jesus is able to send the Holy Spirit of God to empower us to execute the righteous desires that He puts into us. We can be united with God. The Bible says, "... is God who works in you both to will and to do for His good pleasure" (Philippians 2:13 NKJ).

Our natural inclination is to think that we can change ourselves with our own willpower. As a child, when I did wrong, my response was, "I'm sorry; please forgive me. I promise not to do it again." I thought that by promising not to do something I would be able to keep from repeating the wrong action. I was dependent upon my own willpower. When I became addicted to alcohol, I made the same resolution, but to no avail. God in His mercy was showing me my need for His grace. He showed me my need for His righteous desire, so that I could want to remain sober, and He showed me His willingness to empower me with His strength so I could execute and live in His righteous desires. He showed me the blessedness of wanting to live in His righteousness and power in all areas of my life. We can experience the joys of the heavenly life now. I am not yet perfect, but He is working His perfection and power into me and enabling me to be filled with His Spirit so that I can live in Him and impart His perfection and power into others. God is arranging circumstances in the lives of many so that they know their need and experience His ability to give them righteousness and strength. He is also doing this for our society, our nation and the world, so that truly the heavens and earth will be filled with His glory, His righteousness and His power. Heaven and earth will be united in Christ.

God, in His mercy, shows us our need of Him. God in His wisdom has provided the way for us to have our prideful, sinful, and self-dependent ways removed by bringing them to the cross of Jesus. God in His grace enables us to receive His life and power so we can know that "in the LORD I have righteousness and strength." Let us come boldly to His throne of grace so we too can testify to this truth.

Father, we rejoice in Your abundance of grace and mercy. Help us to daily come to You for the grace and mercy we need to live in and do Your will and to help others to know the joy of Your heavenly life. Amen.

God is Offering us Righteousness and Strength

"He shall say, 'Surely in the LORD I have righteousness and strength.' To Him men shall come, and all shall be ashamed who are incensed against Him." (Isaiah 45:24 NKJ)

God created us to have dominion over the earth. The Bible says, "So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. Then God blessed them, and God said to them, 'Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth'" (Genesis 1:27-28 NKJ).

God wants us to be happy. He desires to bless us. He created us for a purpose and honors us by revealing special works, plans and purposes for us. We would be honored if the President, accompanied by members of his staff, made a special visit to our home, asking us to do a special task for him. We would be doubly honored if the President gave us a large sum of money and left some of his staff behind to help us accomplish his task. We would feel blessed because this man of stature, our President, had entrusted to us a significant place of rulership, authority, and responsibility.

This is similar to what God gave man when He created him. He made him in His likeness. We have the ability to be filled with God's nature and character so we can like what He likes, have access to His wisdom and power, and be united with Him in our moral character and in spirit. He gave us access to the tree of life, so we could feed on His life and become filled with His desires and character.

Man sinned; he willed to live apart from the life of God and wanted to live in his own will, after the character and nature of Satan. Man's very nature became sinful. His children, born from his nature, were also sinful. When Jesus came to earth, He brought a new nature into humanity. He lived in God's will and nature and in the power of the Spirit of God. He died to satisfy God's righteous wrath for our rebellion and for the hurt we have caused others by our sinfulness. He took away our sinful ways, and brought them into hell, the place of separation from God. God raised Him from the dead, and now Jesus can impart His life into us so we can want to live in God's will and be empowered with His Spirit. We can live in a life that loves morality, in continual spiritual communion with God, as Christ did.

God is working situations in our lives, revealing our need of this new life He offers, and empowering us to obey Him, doing His will so that the new life becomes active in all of our being. Our need is not to do first, hoping then to be blessed. That is the way of the Law, the way of the old covenant. Rather He calls us to come to Him, to focus on Jesus, and to receive into our being His life, His love, and His nature. He calls us to see ourselves in His heavenly presence, and to let the Holy Spirit impart God's will and power into us. Then we can know and do His will. God first blesses us; then He instructs and empowers us. We need to spend time with Him, receiving His blessing; then we can go and do and witness to others the blessedness of receiving and doing the will of God.

Father, we rejoice in Your desire to impart Your will and nature into us through Jesus and the power of Your Holy Spirit. Help us to receive and live in Your will and in Your heavenly kingdom. Amen.
