A Thought for the DayóJesus Our Holy One

              Tuesday, July 10, 2007

"I do not receive honor from men. But I know you, that you do not have the love of God in you. I have come in My Father's name, and you do not receive Me; if another comes in his own name, him you will receive.

"How can you believe, who receive honor from one another, and do not seek the honor that comes from the only God?" (John 5:41-44 NKJ)

Jesus came to do the will of His Father. When He came into the world He said, "Behold, I have come--in the volume of the book it is written of Me--to do Your will, O God" (Hebrews 10:7 NKJ). He knew He was sent by God to do His Fatherís will. He knew His purpose. He knew He was the Son of God, co-equal with God in Divine majesty, glory and character. He knew His Father wanted Him to humble Himself and become weak like a man, so that He could show people how to live by the power of the Holy Spirit. He knew He was to be the Savior of the world. His name, "Jesus," which means "Savior," was given to Him by the angel because He was to save the world from their sins. These things were written of Him in the Bible. He was the Holy One of God, called to bring the holy nature of God into human flesh, so that we could become partakers of Godís holy nature and be united with Him in all of our being.

Jesus was tempted in all ways as we are, yet He did not give in to the temptation; He did the will of His Father through the power of the Holy Spirit who was with Him. Jesus did not receive honor from men; He knew what was in their hearts (John 2:25). He loved people, but also knew that they would let Him down, many even turning against Him, because of sin in their hearts. He knew that people in their natural state could not come to Him or know Him; they were under Satanís influence. He said, "No one can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me draws him" (John 6:44 NKJ).

Jesus, like all of us, had a desire to be honored. His desire was not to seek the honor from men, but rather to seek it from God. He wanted to serve men, to help them to know His Father. He knew that His Father wanted people to know Him and His love for them. He came to serve mankind and to serve His Father, knowing that in doing this His Father would honor Him. He knew God loved Him, yet the people of the world would not love Him because He testified that the ways of the world were evil. Because people did not have the love of God in them, they could not love what God loved. Unless people have the life and nature of God in them through Christ, they do not love holiness and do not seek to be morally holy. People cannot do the things that God would have them do without the power of the Holy Spi9rit working in them. Jesus came to give to us this life--a life that loves the holiness and purity of God. He now is able to send the Holy Spirit into us so that we can have the power to do what God wants us to do. As we seek this and receive this life, we will serve God and God will honor us, as He has honored His Son.

Father, we rejoice in Your holiness and purity of character. Help us to live for You, serving you as Jesus did. Let us live for You, under the power of Your Holy Spirit, seeking Your honor. Amen.
