Week of July 24, 2006 - "Seek the Things that Are Above"

Monday, July 24, 2006

"But you have come to Mount Zion and to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem;" (Hebrews 12:22)

The Bible says that we were raised with Christ, and that we should seek those things that are above--where Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God (Colossians 3:1). The Bible says that Jesus died for us (2 Corinthians 5:15). It also says that Jesus died with us (Galatians 2:20). We are to accept and acknowledge Jesusí death as payment for our sins. We are also to identify with His death and to recognize ourselves as dead to sin with Him and alive to righteousness with Him (Romans 6:8Ė15). We are to spiritually identify with His resurrection and should seek and receive the heavenly things of Christ (Colossians 3:1). What are some of those heavenly things? The Book of Hebrews shows us some of them.

We have been brought to the Heavenly Mount Zion, to the Heavenly Jerusalem. There is a physical place on the earth called Mount Zion, located in Jerusalem, Israel. There is also a heavenly Mount Zion. There is a city of Jerusalem in Israel, and there is a Heavenly Jerusalem. The Bible says that Jesus now reigns from the Heavenly City, and He will return to reign in the earthly city. His kingdom is now in the spiritual realm, and will also be manifest in the natural realm. Jesus now reigns in us and is building His kingdom in us. His kingdom is increasing in His people who allow His Spirit to work in their spirit and then into their soul and body. Our whole being--spirit, soul and body--is being sanctified by the Holy Spirit in these days.

God has brought us in spirit to His Heavenly place, so that He can work into our spirit all that is heavenly. He does this so that we can bring His heavenly ways into the earth. Today this is an internal work in us. In the future, Christ will reveal His complete reign in us and we will fully reign with Him. After the millennium, all that is not of God will have been totally removed from the heavens and the earth, and there will be complete unity of the ways and presence of God in heaven and on the earth. New heavens and a new earth will be formed, and all of Godís people will be united with Him. The heavens and the earth will be filled with His glory.

Today, the eyes of the world are on the physical Jerusalem. Nations are seeking to reign in Jerusalem. God encourages us to fix our focus on His heavenly Jerusalem and all that He is doing to bring His heavenly city onto the earth. Jesus is King on Mount Zion. Jesus taught us to pray, "THY KINGDOM COME, THY WILL BE DONE ON EARTH AS IT IS IN HEAVEN." God is responding to our prayer. He invites us to enter into His plan to bring this about.

Father, we rejoice in Your great wisdom, Your power, Your longsuffering, and Your mercy. We rejoice that You have a plan to unite heaven and earth through Jesus. We rejoice that You are responding to the prayers of Your people. All glory be to You, in Christ our Lord! Amen.

(You have come) "Öto an innumerable company of angels, to the general assembly and church of the firstborn who are registered in heaven," (Hebrews 12:22, 23)

The Bible says that we were raised with Christ, and that we should seek those things that are above, where Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God (Colossians 3:1). 2 Corinthians 5:15 says that Jesus died for us. The Bible also says that Jesus died with us (Galatians 2:20). JESUS SAID WE MUST BE BORN FROM ABOVE (John 3:3, 7). What are some of those heavenly things? The Book of Hebrews shows us some of them.

We have been brought to an innumerable company of angels. Our God is the Lord of Hosts. He has an innumerable number of angelic beings that He can send to help us. Satan is a strong evil spiritual being who has led many angelic beings into his evil kingdom. BUT our God is far more powerful, and He has more angels at His disposal that all the forces of evil. God showed His power over evil when He raised Jesus from the depths of hell, through all the princes of evil who reign in the heavens, and exalted Him as King of kings and Lord of all. We are to remember this. Elijah knew this. When Israelís enemies surrounded the city, Elijahís servant was fearful. When Elijah prayed, God revealed to his servant the innumerable number of heavenly host that were with him. Single-handedly Elijah, through the power of Godís angels, took captive the whole army of the enemies of Israel!

We are part of the assembly of Godís people and of the church of the firstborn, whose names are written in heaven. God is putting together an army of believers who will reign with Christ and through whom He will bring all things under the dominion of Jesus (Psalm 110:2, 3). The Bible says that Jesus, today, is reminding us that God is our Father and that Jesus is rejoicing among us, singing songs of praise to God. He is identifying with us in His heavenly place, reminding us that He too is trusting in His Father and that He calls us "the children whom God has given Him" (Hebrews 2:12,13). In Jesus, we are Godís firstborn. He is responsible for us. Through Jesus, God will establish us and accomplish the eternal plans and purposes He has for us and through us, and for all of His creation. Hallelujah!

Father, we rejoice in You. We worship Your nature, Your character, Your righteousness, Your holiness, Your wisdom, Your longsuffering and Your mercy. Your ways are truly above all that we are and above all we can ask or think. Help us to see, to know, to receive, to live in and to thank You for all that You have provided for us. Help us to be aware of our being Your firstborn in Christ. Amen.

[You have come]..."to God the Judge of all, to the spirits of just men made perfect." (Hebrews 12:23 NKJ)

The Bible says that we were raised with Christ, and that we should seek those things that are above, where Christ is, sitting at Godís right hand (Colossians 3:1). 2 Corinthians 5:15 says that Jesus died for us. The Bible also says that Jesus died with us (Galatians 2:20). We are to accept and acknowledge Jesusí death as payment for our sins. We are also to identify with His death and to recognize ourselves as dead to sin and alive to righteousness with Him (Romans 6:8Ė15). We are to spiritually identify with His resurrection and should seek and receive the heavenly things of Christ (Colossians 3:1). JESUS SAID WE MUST BE BORN FROM ABOVE (John 3:3, 7). What are some of those heavenly things? The Book of Hebrews shows us some of them.

God is the Judge of all. All spiritual beings--good and evil--will be judged by Him, as will all human beings. Every action of man, good or evil, will be judged. The men and women who are living as judges in this life will be judged. The unrighteous judgments of judges who are not letting Godís Word be their standard for judgment will be judged. God is the Judge of all.

God has committed all judgment to His Son, Jesus. Through Him all judgment of God will come. We all must stand before the judgment seat of Christ. Even now, in this life, the judgments of Christ are coming forth. We who believe in Jesus and have confessed our sins need not fear Godís wrath. We are being rewarded for the good we have done in this life. Some of Godís people are not receiving the full blessings of God because they have neglected to bless others and are not receiving their reward from God.

We have come "to the spirits of just men being made perfect." When Jesus returns and we reign with Him, we shall be given territories over which to reign. We shall judge the people and the spiritual beings in these places. In this life, we are being trained to reign with Christ in the millennium. Those who believed in Christ and are now with Him in heaven are also being perfected for their opportunity to reign with Him, as we are who still live on this earth. We are to live with an eternal perspective on life, seeing life from our heavenly position in Christ. We are to seek the judgments of God--for us today, and for the nations today and tomorrow. God will reveal His plan and His judgments to those who diligently seek Him. God is a righteous Judge. Jesus reigns today; we can reign now and forever with Him, as He brings about all the judgments of God. Even so, come Lord Jesus.

Father, You are holy and righteous. Your judgments are good and merciful and right. Help us to live in Your judgments, as You do. Help us to seek Your judgments through Jesus, and to declare your judgments into this world so that the world might know the blessedness of living in Your kingdom. Amen.

[You have come] Ö "to Jesus the Mediator of the new covenant," (Hebrews 12:24 NKJ)

JESUS SAID WE MUST BE BORN FROM ABOVE (John 3:3,7). What are some of those heavenly things? The Book of Hebrews shows us some of them.

God has brought us before Jesus, the Mediator of the New Covenant. We know Jesus reigns in heaven. We know He has been given all authority in heaven and on earth. Here we are reminded that He is the Mediator of the New Covenant. He is the One through whom God brings the blessings of the New Covenant to us, and the One through whom we enter into and live in the New Covenant.

In the New Covenant, God promises to put His ways into us, so that we want to serve Him and follow Him. He promises to form a new spirit in us. He promises to cleanse us from our old sinful ways and to put His Spirit in us so that we can do all He wants us to do and be all He wants us to be. He says, "I will put My Spirit within you and cause you to walk in My statutes, and you will keep My judgments and do them." (Ezekiel 36:26-27 NKJ)

Jesus is the Mediator of this New Covenant. He died so we can be forgiven. He now lives so we can receive His life and be all God wants us to be. God has brought us, in spirit, before the heavenly throne of Christ so that we can experience all the blessings of the New Covenant. God also has promised, " that we, being delivered from the hand of our enemies, might serve Him without fear, in holiness and righteousness before Him all the days of our life" (Luke 1:74-75 NKJ).

We live in times of tremendous unrest. Sin is rampantly increasing. The enemies of God are arising, seeking to destroy His people and His purposes. BUT GOD has a plan to give us victory. He has brought us before the ONE through whom His victory will come to us. LET US COME BOLDLY TO THE THRONE OF GRACE, THAT WE MIGHT RECEIVE GRACE AND MERCY IN THESE TIMES (Hebrews 4:16). Let us know and live in His New Covenant.

Father, we rejoice in You and in Your New Covenant. Help us to come to Your Throne of Grace and receive mercy and grace so we can be all You want us to be and do in Christ. Amen.

[You have come]Ö" to the blood of sprinkling that speaks better things than that of Abel" (Hebrews 12:24 NKJ)

Jesus reigns in heaven for us. He is king of kings. Yesterday we were reminded that He is the Mediator of the New Covenant. Today we are reminded that He is our High Priest. He sprinkles us with His blood. Jesus shed His blood for us on earth when He died on the cross. He also carried His blood into heaven with Him when He ascended. The Bible says, "but with His own blood He entered the Most Holy Place once for all, having obtained eternal redemption" (Hebrews 9:12 NKJ).

We have been sprinkled with that blood (1 Peter 1:2, Hebrews 10:22). We are a people marked by God. We belong to Him; He owns us, having bought us with the blood of Jesus. We are separated from this world, called to live for Him. We have access to the throne of grace by the blood of Jesus (Hebrews 10:19). Our sins are cleansed by Jesusí blood (Romans 3:25). Our conscience and our inner spirit are cleansed and given the ability to function properly through the blood (Hebrews 9:14). We have right standing before God through the blood (Romans 5: 9). We can commune with the very body and blood of Jesus as we participate in the Lordís Supper (1 Corinthians 10:16). Through Jesusí blood we enter into the New Covenant and its promises. Through the blood of Jesus we can be made one with God and with all of His people. Jesus wants this. He died to accomplish this. He now lives so that it will become a reality for us.

The blessings of the blood can only be obtained through faith (Romans 3:25). The blessings of the blood will only be manifested through our obedience (1 Peter 1:2). Our obedience is totally possible through the blood of the New Covenant. Satan and his demons know all about the blood (James 2: 19-20); yet he will spend eternity in hell. He and the evil angels will be removed from the earth in the age to come. Some people know about the blood, yet they have not applied it into their lives by faith. They have not experienced the heart change that application of the blood brings. They give lip service to God but their hearts are far from Him. Some do not want, or think they need, a change of heart, so the blood is of no value in their lives. They will eternally be with Satan, even when he is sent into hell.

God has provided a way for all to come to Him, but it is only through the blood of Jesus. He is increasing the reign and power of Christ in this earth in these days. He has promised to do this. All things will be and are being brought under the reign and dominion of Christ through His people. That is the plan and purpose of God for these days. It has always been His plan. This is His eternal plan. When Jesus came, He taught us to pray for the kingdom of God to come into us and onto the earth through us. This has been, and still is, Godís eternal plan for us.

Father, we thank You for Your plan of salvation for us, made manifest through the blood of Jesus. Help us to believe, receive, and do all you have provided and ask of us. We pray in Jesusí name. Amen.
