A Thought for the Day--Let us Rejoice and Give Thanks!
November 27, 2008
We wish you all a Blessed Thanksgiving Season.
It is a good thing to give thanks unto the Lord. We all know and do this. We all can do this because He to Whom we give thanks has put His Spirit into our hearts, enabling us to know Him. As we know more of Him--of who He is, what He has done, His plan and purposes for us, His provision for us to dwell in Him and live in and for Him, and know His life and glory in us--we truly can give thanks.
Today, we can give thanks with many others for a National Day of Thanksgiving. We are especially blessed to be able to remember and to give thanks to God for what He has done for us as a nation. We can be thankful that we live in a nation that was founded by people who set aside special days and seasons for prayer and thanksgiving. We can be thankful that we are a nation that still says that we are a republic, under God, with liberty and justice for all.
We can thank God for what He has done for us as a nation, under God. We can thank God that He is perfecting us, His people, so that we can bring about His rule and influence into all spheres and levels of influence of our society. The Bible says, “But may the God of all grace, who called us to His eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after you have suffered a while, perfect, establish, strengthen, and settle you. To Him be the glory and the dominion forever and ever. Amen” (1 Peter 5:10-11 NKJ).
Our God is infinitely wise, righteous, holy and perfect. Jesus showed us the life of God in human form. Now He imparts His character into us through the Holy Spirit, so that we too can be filled with His wisdom, righteousness, holiness, and His Perfected Being. The grace of God was upon Christ so that He could do this for us, and now the grace of God is upon Christ so that He can do this in us. The grace of God is upon Christ so that He can use us to perfect His people and use them to perfect the nations of the earth. David said, “All nations whom You have made shall come and worship before You, O Lord, and shall glorify Your name” (Psalm 86:9 NKJ).
Yes, we and our nation must go through times of suffering, so that we can be perfected like Jesus. However, as we let Him perfect us with His life and His infinite grace, we can see that He prepares us a table in the presence of our enemies for communion with Him (Psalm 23). We can receive His victory over all the powers of our enemies and reign with Him amidst them (Psalm 110:2,3). We can rest assuredly in His promises not only to bring us through times of suffering, but that through them we shall be perfected and reign with Him in this life (Romans 5:17).
Isaiah reminds us that His kingdom and His government shall continually increase, in us and through us. The fiery zeal of our Father will accomplish this (Isaiah 9:6,7). He is the God of all grace (1 Peter 5:10). Let us rejoice and give thanks!
