A Thought for the Week—Jesus is THE Savior

Monday, October 2, 2006

"Jesus said to him, 'I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.' " (John 14:6 NKJ)

Jesus is THE Savior of the world. He is not just one of many people who will help others, He is THE Savior. He is THE ONLY Savior. He is the ONLY man who lived a sinless life and therefore could be a Savior of others. He is the ONLY one who died for the sins of the world. He is the ONLY one who died with the sins of the world. He is the ONLY one who takes away the sins of the world. He is the ONLY one who was fore-ordained by God, before the foundations of the world, to die for the sins of the world. (1 Peter 1:19-20).

The angel who appeared first to Mary and then to Joseph, telling them of the child Mary was to conceive, told each of them to call His name "Jesus." The angel told Joseph to name Him Jesus because He would save the people from their sins (Matthew 1:21). The name "Jesus" means "Savior." Before He formed the world, God knew that His Son would have to become its Savior (1Peter 1:19-20). Jesus knew that He was the Savior of the world before He went to the cross. He told Nicodemus that in order for men to escape condemnation they must believe in His name. They must believe that He was the man God had appointed to be the Savior of the world, as His name indicated. He then went on to explain that men were under condemnation because they did not think that they needed a Savior. Men were condemned because they loved the darkness of their sin rather than light, because their deeds were evil. Many today acknowledge the truth that Jesus died on the cross, but they have not come to the personal realization that their sins need to be forgiven and removed so they can receive the life of God that can keep them from sinning.

Jesus knew that He was the Savior of the world. God loved the world and sent His Son to be its Savior. He died for people, taking on Himself their sins. He takes away the sins of people as they are given to Him through confession. He is the Savior, and He can save every person who comes to Him. He can also save the world. God’s plan is to remove sin from His people. He will remove the evil spirits who can only sin themselves, and who entice people to sin. He will bring down the strongholds of Satan and establish His righteous judgments in the earth. He will repopulate the heavenly thrones with His people and will rule the world through Jesus ruling in and through His people. He will remove all those who after the millennial reign of Christ still seek to destroy His people. Jesus will then remove sinful spirits and sinful people from the world.

The Bible says that creation itself is groaning, waiting for these events to happen as God fully manifests His ways and rule in His people. The created world will rejoice as Jesus saves us from the punishment of evil, from the power of evil, and from the presence of evil (Romans 8:19-21).

Father, we rejoice that You have sent Your Son to be the Savior of the world. Truly, Jesus saves! Amen.

A Thought for the Week—Jesus is THE Savior

"Jesus said to him, 'I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.'"(John 14:6 NKJ)

Jesus is THE Savior of the world. He is not just one of many people who will help others--He is THE Savior. He is THE ONLY Savior. He is the ONLY man who lived a sinless life and therefore could be a Savior of others. He is the ONLY one who died for the sins of the world. He is the ONLY one who died with the sins of the world. He is the ONLY one who takes away the sins of the world. He is the ONLY one who was fore-ordained by God, before the foundations of the world, to die for the sins of the world (1 Peter 1:19-20).

Jesus (Our Savior) is THE WAY. Only through Him can we come to God. His words can bring life to our deadened spirits. He brought the word of eternal life--of God’s eternal plan for us to live for Him, with Him and in Him eternally. Jesus told His followers about being intimate with God--about eating His body and drinking His blood, for that purpose. He had not yet taught them about Holy Communion, and consequently many of His followers left Him. The Bible tells what then happened: "Then Jesus said to the twelve, ‘Do you also want to go away?’ But Simon Peter answered Him, ‘Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life. Also we have come to believe and know that You are the Christ, the Son of the living God’" (John 6:67-69 NKJ). We may not always understand everything Jesus is doing or has done, but if we know that Jesus is the way, we will stick with Him until He gives us further revelation.

Peter also tells us that Jesus is our example of how to live. Jesus shows us the way to our Father and shows us, through His own example, how to live for Him (1 Peter 2:21). Jesus was weak like we are, and He was dependent upon revelation from the Holy Spirit as we are to be. He is the way for us to live. He lived for us, showing us how to live for His Father through the Holy Spirit. Now He can live in us, bringing His way of living into us so we can live in the way He lived.

Jesus lived before the presence of His Father, even while He was on the earth. His Spirit was in constant communion with His Father. He told His followers that He only did what He saw His Father doing (John 5:19). He told them, "I and My Father are one." He is now our way into living in the Holiest of All--living in the very temple of God--through our spirit being united with His. We too can live in fellowship with the Father as He did. Jesus desired this for us. He prayed this for us. He is still praying this for us. This is part of our destiny and part of Jesus’ ministry for us, to us, and in us as He reveals Himself as "THE WAY." "Therefore, brethren, having boldness to enter the Holiest by the blood of Jesus, by a new and living way which He consecrated for us, through the veil, that is, His flesh, let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith" (Hebrews 10:19-20, 22 NKJ). LET US DRAW NEAR.

Father, we rejoice that we can come to you and live before you because of Jesus, OUR WAY. Amen.

"Jesus said to him, 'I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.'" (John 14:6 NKJ)

Jesus said, "I am the truth" (John 14:6). He is the one through whom the truth of God will be made known to the world. He knew this was His calling and destiny; He told His followers, "Nor does anyone know the Father except the Son, and the one to whom the Son wills to reveal Him" (Matthew 11:27 NKJ). Jesus came to reveal the truth about God, about who He is and how He wants us to relate to Him as our Father. He came to reveal truth about our bondage to sin and to the ways of the devil. He came to reveal the truth about God’s plan to free us from our desires to sin and be self-dependent, and to impart into us the ways of God and of living in total union with and dependence upon Him (John 17:22-24).

Jesus came to speak the words of God to us, knowing that through the truth of God’s Word we could become holy and receive the gift of righteousness God offers us. When He prayed for us He said, "Sanctify them by Your truth. Your word is truth" (John 17:17).

The Bible says that in the latter days men will be deceived and many will be overcome by the deceptions of the devil. Certainly we see false religions, paganism and uniting of world religions increasing in our land in these days. These deceptions will come to those who do not receive a love of the truth (2 Thessalonians 2:9-10). Jesus is truth. He loved truth, walked in truth, and can give us a love of truth. Let us receive Him as The Truth from God. He has grace for us so we can walk in His truth. Grace and truth came through Jesus (John 1:14, 17).

Father, we rejoice that You live in truth. You do not lie about our need of Jesus, nor about Your plans for us, for evil doers, and for Satan. Help us to live in and receive Your truth through Jesus. Amen.

"Jesus said to him, 'I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.'" (John 14:6 NKJ)

He is the ONLY one who was fore-ordained by God, before the foundation of the world, to die for the sins of the world (1 Peter 1:19-20).

Jesus said, "I am the life" (John 14:6). In Him was the life of God. In Him was a life that was in continual fellowship with God. In Him was a life that lived to do the will of God. In Him was a life that was united with the life of God. The life we are born with is self-centered rather than God-centered. The life we are born with seeks to live for the pleasures of food and drink and the possessions of this world. The life we are born with is alienated from the life of God and does not seek to be united with Him and His ways and His purposes.

Jesus not only said, "I am the life," (John 14:6) He also said, "I have come that they might have life" (John 10:10). Jesus came not only to show us the life of God in human form, but also to impart the life of God into our humanity. He not only came to give us the life of God, but He also came to take upon Himself our sinful life. God laid our sinful ways on Jesus so we could have the righteous ways of God brought into us (2 Corinthians 5:21). Jesus became sin for us. He took our sinful ways into Himself so that we could receive His new sinless life into us.

The Bible says that the life of our humanity is in our blood (Leviticus 17:11). Jesus shed His blood for us; He gave up His life for us. Jesus also said we must drink His blood in order to have the life of God (John 6:53). He comes to us through the communion meal and offers us His body and His blood, so that we can enter into the New Covenant with Him (Matthew 26: 27-28). Under the New Covenant, God has promised to put His ways into us so that we could have victory over all our enemies and live to serve Him (Luke 1:74-75). Under the New Covenant, God has promised to put His ways into us so that we would know His judgments and would do them (Jeremiah 32:40; Jeremiah 31:33; Hebrews 9:11,14-16). Jesus gave us His life so that we can receive all the blessings of the New Covenant and live for God as He did. He gave His life in death for us, so that now He can give us His heavenly, sinless and resurrected life. He is our life. Let us receive and live in Him.

Father, we rejoice in Your life, Your ways, Your desires and purposes. Help us to receive and live in Your life in Christ in us. Amen.

"Jesus said to him, 'I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.'" (John 14:6 NKJ)

Jesus said, "No one comes to the Father except through Me" (John 14:6 NKJ). Most people when they read this word of Jesus think that no one CAN come to the Father without acknowledging their need of Jesus as their personal Savior. It is true that we need to accept Jesus as our personal Savior from the wrath of God that is due to us because of our sinful ways and actions. But this passage is saying more than that. Not only are we kept out of God’s kingdom without acknowledging Jesus as our Savior, we also do not have the ability or the desire to come into the presence of a Holy and Righteous God without the saving grace of God. We need Jesus to give us the right and the desire to come to God.

When Adam and Eve sinned, they hid themselves from God. They covered themselves with "self-righteous actions" in the making of fig leaves to cover the shame of their nakedness. God came to them. Jesus said, "For everyone practicing evil hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his deeds should be exposed" (John 3:20 NKJ). All people who have sinned hate the light of God that exposes sin. In our fallen condition we excuse sin; we do not hate it and want to see it removed from ourselves and from the world. In our fallen condition, we do not have the fear of God living in us. God has a plan to give us a hatred of evil and a love of righteousness. God has a plan to remove from the world the evil spirits who have deceived us into being like them, living in rebellion against God and letting their evil ways have a part in our lives and in our society. God has a plan to fill us with His holiness and to have us reign in the spirit realm so that the people of the world can know the love of God by receiving a love of the truth. God has a plan to fill the heavens and the earth with His love and His glory and His ways. The plan of God is centered in Jesus Christ our Savior. He is the One who can give us a love of God and a hatred of evil. He is the One who can give us a desire to live in the plan and purposes of God. Let us receive His life so we can come to God.

Father, we rejoice that You sent your Son so that we can receive the desire to come to You. Amen.
