A Thought for the Week—Arise, Shine

Monday, October 9, 2006

"Arise, shine; for your light has come! And the glory of the LORD is risen upon you. For behold, the darkness shall cover the earth, and deep darkness the people; but the LORD will arise over you, and His glory will be seen upon you. The Gentiles shall come to your light, and kings to the brightness of your rising." (Isaiah 60:1-3 NKJ)

We recently attended a conference in a Hispanic church in Chicago. People were there from many U.S. cities and other nations. The leaders were Hispanic people from Chicago, Guatemala, Bolivia, Michigan, and Arizona.

The pastor of the church is from Colombia. Five years ago God told him to come to Chicago and said he would be given authority in this city. This international Hispanic conference on reaching Chicago has been held every year since then. Kay and I were there because we are networked together with the speaker from Bolivia. Our son Dan is a missionary there, and we have met this man who has a kindred spirit for international intercession and city reaching. We have ministered in his church, and have networked with him in Bolivia and now in the U.S.

We were able to share our vision and our Chicago prayer-walking experiences with the leaders, and we took them on a downtown Chicago drive-around Saturday morning. I was then asked to accompany them on the Chicago fly-over in the afternoon. Saturday afternoon was the time when the conference attendees had a police-escorted drive-around. Scores of people were worshiping and praying in a caravan of cars going around the north side of Chicago. At the same time a group went up in the Sears Tower for intercession. During that time, I was part of the leadership team that went to Palwaukee airport for the fly-over. Eight of us went up in three small aircraft and flew over the city. We spent an hour in the air, making prophetic declarations and interceding over the land, the lake, the downtown area, and the north and south areas of Chicago.

As we were returning to the airport, we saw a belt of light over the horizon in the southwest. This was similar to the first rays of sunlight that come up in the early morning before the sun has appeared. When we looked back to the city, all the land was still in relative darkness, because of the cloudy day--but the buildings of Chicago were now in the light that was coming from the band of light in the western horizon. I have never seen the light of the sun rising in the west over Chicago before! The word that then came was, "Arise, shine, Chicago, for your light has come!" When we returned to the conference location, we were informed that the Sears Tower group had received a similar word. God is arising. He is calling us to arise with Him. Let us arise and shine!

Father You have led us, like many others, to pray, "Arise O God,…remember how the foolish man reproaches You daily"(Psalm 74:22 NKJ). We believe that You are now arising and calling us to arise with You. Help us to hear and obey. Amen.

A Thought for the Week—Arise, Shine

"Arise, shine; for your light has come! And the glory of the LORD is risen upon you. For behold, the darkness shall cover the earth, and deep darkness the people; but the LORD will arise over you, and His glory will be seen upon you. The Gentiles shall come to your light, and kings to the brightness of your rising." (Isaiah 60:1-3 NKJ)

God is rising. He promises to rise from within and upon His people when darkness increases in the earth. Certainly, darkness is increasing. Sexual immorality is increasing. People are now learning how to have sex with their animals. Violence in schools is increasing. Children are abusing themselves in high schools. Nations are rising against nations. Socialist nations in South America are denouncing the ways of democracy as practiced by the United States.

Amidst the increasing darkness, the light of God is arising. God promises to do this. He tells us to "behold the reality" of darkness covering the earth and deep darkness the peoples. God is not afraid that darkness will destroy and overcome His people or His plans and purposes for them. He is not afraid that the spiritual rulers of the people caught up in darkness will be able to use them to destroy His plan. God promises great grace for His people amidst the increasing darkness coming on and into the world. He promises that He will increase the manifestation of His presence and His glory in and on His people during such times. The Bible says, "…where sin abounded, grace abounded much more" (Romans 5:20 NKJ).

Recently a man went into a school and killed five Amish school children. Great darkness came into that school. HOWEVER, the Amish community, while devastated by the cold-blooded murder of five of its schoolgirls, is raising money for the killer's family. An Amish neighbor comforted the killer's family and extended forgiveness to them after the shooting.

"One of the few non-Amish guests invited to the funeral of seven-year-old Naomi Rose Ebersole, the first little girl to be buried, was Marie Roberts, the killer's wife. With tears in her eyes, Mrs. Roberts sat in the back of one of the 34 black horse-drawn carriages that were part of the funeral cortege behind Naomi's horse-drawn hearse. On the way from the church to the hilltop cemetery, the procession passed Mrs. Roberts' home where her husband, Charles, loaded up his guns before heading for the little village school on Monday" reported Barry Wigmore in the UK’s Daily Mail.

God arises amidst the darkness. He told Jesus to, "Rule in the midst of Your enemies!" (Psalm 110:2 NKJ) We can be lights amidst the darkness, because Jesus Christ, the Light of the world, is rising from within us and upon us. Let us arise and shine!

Father, we confess that Your will is for us to know and receive Your grace through Christ to arise and shine amidst the increasing darkness of this world. Help us to do this. Amen.

A Thought for the Week— Arise, Shine

"Arise, shine; for your light has come! And the glory of the LORD is risen upon you. For behold, the darkness shall cover the earth, and deep darkness the people; but the LORD will arise over you, and His glory will be seen upon you. The Gentiles shall come to your light, and kings to the brightness of your rising." (Isaiah 60:1-3 NKJ)

God is arising. He is hearing the voice of His people. He knows that His name is being reproached and mocked in our land and in the nations of the earth. The Spirit of God has led many to pray, "Arise, O God, plead Your own cause; remember how the foolish man reproaches You daily" (Psalm 74:22NKJ).

Some in other lands are openly proclaiming that their god is greater than the God of Israel. Some are saying that the Christian God is but one of many gods. Some are saying that our God cannot heal or deliver His people today. Some are saying that our God cannot free people from sinful bondages and lifestyles. BUT GOD SAYS, "I WILL ARISE AND MY NAME SHALL BE GLORIFIED IN MY PEOPLE IN ALL THE EARTH." This is what Isaiah has said.

God says He will do a work in us, to show the nations what He can do. "And I will sanctify My great name, which has been profaned among the nations, which you have profaned in their midst; and the nations shall know that I am the LORD," says the Lord GOD, "when I am hallowed in you before their eyes" (Ezekiel 36:23 NKJ). God says the nations will fear Him as He imparts His glory into His nature in us. "So the nations shall fear the name of the LORD, and all the kings of the earth Your glory. For the LORD shall build up Zion; he shall appear in His glory" (Psalm 102:15-16 NKJ). The Bible says, "Israel also came into Egypt, and Jacob dwelt in the land of Ham. He increased His people greatly, and made them stronger than their enemies. He turned their heart to hate His people, to deal craftily with His servants" (Psalm 105:23-25 NKJ).

Many are beginning to hate the people of God, just as the Egyptians hated Israel. But God raised up Moses and Aaron, who did signs and wonders and delivered His people. God says, "As in the days when you came out of the land of Egypt, I will show them wonders. The nations shall see and be ashamed of all their might; they shall put their hand over their mouth; their ears shall be deaf" (Micah 7:15-16 NKJ). God will be raising up apostolic leaders in these days.

"The Gentiles shall come to your light, and kings to the brightness of your rising" (Isaiah 60:3 NKJ). When Jesus came the first time, kings from pagan lands came and acknowledged His arrival. So it will also be in these days. Let us arise and shine, for our light has come!

Father, we rejoice that You are arising in these days. Help us to follow Jesus as He arises in us and through us, so that the nations might glorify Your Great and Holy Name.

The Spirit of God has led many to pray, "Arise, O God, plead Your own cause; remember how the foolish man reproaches You daily" (Psalm 74:22 NKJ).

God is arising. He is arising from His dwelling place in heaven over us and from His dwelling place in us. Our hearts are being stirred as He arises from within us. The very atmosphere is beginning to radiate the presence of God as He arises over us. The unbelievers are even seeing the light of God rising from within us. Like many others, we are seeing these things happen. People are beginning to look to Christians for peace and help with their fears, emotional bondages and addictions. Many are seeing their need for God’s help as God, in His mercy, arranges circumstances for them which will reveal their greater need of Him. God has been preparing His church for such a time as this.

The Isaiah passage continues, "Lift up your eyes all around, and see: they all gather together, they come to you; your sons shall come from afar, and your daughters shall be nursed at your side. Then you shall see and become radiant, and your heart shall swell with joy; because the abundance of the sea shall be turned to you, the wealth of the Gentiles shall come to you" (Isaiah 60:4-5 NKJ). During this process of God bringing increased light and anointing into and upon His people, even the children of God’s people will be drawn to their parents who have been prepared to minister to the needs of people. God is healing families and drawing Christian families closer together in this way.

As we see these things happen all around us, we literally become radiant. We have the inner joy of God’s presence and plan rising up from within us as we know He reigns amidst the darkness. We have a sense of destiny as we realize that we have been prepared for these days. As we experience a deeper spiritual union with our children, and our inner joy increasing, we become even more radiant. The light of God increases upon us and from within us. The increased light of God manifested through us draws even more people to us, and we bring the light to them, see them filled with the Spirit of God, and have once again an inner joy increasing in us--and the process continues. How great is our God! Let us arise and shine.

Father, we rejoice that amidst the darkness of these times You are arising over us and in us so we can live in Your light and release it to those You bring to us. Help us to arise with You.

He is rising from His dwelling place in heaven over us. He is rising upon us. The Spirit of God is coming upon us to bring the ways of heaven into the earth. He is inviting us to come into Christ in God so we might live in Him and follow Him as He brings all things under the will and dominion of Christ. God is rising from His dwelling place in us. Our hearts are being stirred as He arises from within us. The very atmosphere is beginning to radiate the presence of God as He arises over us. The unbelievers are even seeing the light of God rising from within us. Like many others, we are seeing these things happen.

The Isaiah passage continues, "Lift up your eyes all around, and see: they all gather together, they come to you; your sons shall come from afar, and your daughters shall be nursed at your side. Then you shall see and become radiant, and your heart shall swell with joy; because the abundance of the sea shall be turned to you, the wealth of the Gentiles shall come to you. The multitude of camels shall cover your land, the dromedaries of Midian and Ephah; all those from Sheba shall come; they shall bring gold and incense, and they shall proclaim the praises of the LORD" (Isaiah 60:4-6 NKJ). God is healing families and drawing Christian families closer together through His light in Christian parents increasing and children of Christian parents recognizing their need for more of Christ as the darkness increases.

The wealth of the nations will come to us. People of wealth will experience the shaking of their ways of obtaining wealth by means of education and appealing to the greed and self-glorying desires of men. God will give His people supernatural wisdom and revelation, inherent in His nature, so that His people who know how to hear the voice of His Spirit will become successful in their professions and occupations. They shall see the peace and love of God in us, and we will be able to bring them revelation from heaven so they know their need of the life-changing ability of Jesus and His wisdom. They too shall, with us, "…proclaim the praises of the LORD" (Isaiah 60:6).

God is preparing us for the days of darkness. He is allowing darkness to increase on the earth and over the people of the earth. At the same time, He is rising in and upon His people, who will bring the healing love of God to others during these days. Let us arise and shine!

Father, we rejoice in You and Your ways. Help us to enter into all You are and all You are doing over us and in us, so that Your light will shine in us and through us. Amen.
