A Thought for the Week—God is Arising

Monday, October 23, 2006

"You will arise and have mercy on Zion; for the time to favor her, yes, the set time, has come. For Your servants take pleasure in her stones, and show favor to her dust. So the nations shall fear the name of the LORD, and all the kings of the earth Your glory.

For the LORD shall build up Zion; he shall appear in His glory. He shall regard the prayer of the destitute, and shall not despise their prayer." (Psalm 102:13-17 NKJ)

God is arising. He has acted on behalf of His people through the sending of His Son to die for them and by exalting Him to reign over them and in them. Our meditations two weeks ago focused on God telling us to arise amidst the ever-increasing darkness of this world, as His glory comes upon us. Last week we focused on God’s ever-increasing grace being extended to us so that we can be and do all He has called us to be and do. This week our focus is on some of the things that will happen as God arises, and how God uses us in bringing these things forth.

"You will arise and have mercy on Zion; for the time to favor her, yes, the set time, has come" (Psalm 102:13 NKJ). When God arises He extends mercy upon Zion. Zion has several significant meanings in the Bible. Zion is the name of the heavenly city in which God dwells; His heavenly temple is in this city (Hebrews 8:1; 9:12). God's throne is in the Holy of Holies in this temple in this city. We have been raised with Christ and have come to this place (Hebrews 12:22). This has been accomplished in the spiritual realm, and now we can bring it forth into the natural realm of our everyday life. The reality of the heavenly Zion has always been there, as the Bible declares it. The blessing of having access to this heavenly reality has always been there, since the Bible again describes this truth. However, our realizing it and acting on this truth is something God is once again revealing and imparting to us by His grace.

In 1978 God awakened me in the middle of the night and called me to pray. While I was praying, God told me to go to Mt. Sinai in February of 1979. When I asked for confirmation, that I might know this word was from God, He told me that, "your son, Timothy William, will be born on December 29th" of that year."  Kay was pregnant at the time, but we did not know the sex of our child in her womb. Timothy came forth on December 29, and in February of 1979 I was at Mount Sinai. There God spoke through Isaiah 51:16 and Hebrews 12:22-30. The Hebrews passage speaks of our being brought by Him to His heavenly Mount Zion. In the 27 years since then, God has given me deeper understanding of this heavenly reality for His people. Many, many others have also been given revelation concerning this truth. It is possible for us to live on earth while in the reality of spiritually being in God’s heavenly Mount Zion. God in His mercy is revealing these things to us. God is arising and having mercy on us through Zion.

Father, we are humbled by Your mercy and the longsuffering and grace You continually extend to us. Help us to know, receive, grasp, and impart to others all You have and are doing for us. Amen.

This week our focus is on some of the things that will happen as God arises, and on how God uses us in bringing these things forth.

"You will arise and have mercy on Zion; for the time to favor her, yes, the set time, has come. For Your servants take pleasure in her stones, and show favor to her dust." Yesterday we spoke of the heavenly city of God--the heavenly Jerusalem, the heavenly Mount Zion. This city, as described in Hebrews 12 and Revelation 4 and 5, is to be a model of the city God will establish on earth when Jesus returns. Zion in heaven is where God dwells. Zion on earth, in Jerusalem, is where Jesus will live. Zion is also our own heart, the place where God would dwell in us.

God is rising from within us. Jesus comes to His temple, the Bible says, to purify His servants (Malachi 3:1-5). Jesus came to heal the brokenhearted. In these days He is healing the wounds in our spirit. He comes to bring the truth of the Word of God into our heart, revealing and witnessing to our spirit the reality of God’s love and care for us. He comes to show us sinful patterns and places of anger and bitterness in our heart so we can confess them and be cleansed and filled with His nature and His Spirit. He comes to His temple to empty us of ourselves, to fill us with Himself, and to come forth from within us so that His will will be done and His kingdom will come, as in the Heavenly Zion and then in us and then in the nations.

God's servants are taking pleasure in the stones of Zion and are showing favor to her dust. Gem stones are miraculously appearing on earth, to remind us that we are jewels in the crown of our God. Gold dust is appearing on people to remind us that the streets of heaven are paved with gold. God is arising in and upon His servants, bringing His heavenly ways and kingdom into them through bringing the Divine nature of Christ into them. "You shall also be a crown of glory in the hand of the LORD, and a royal diadem in the hand of your God" (Isaiah 62:3 NKJ).

Father, we rejoice in Your holiness and Your plans and purposes. Help us to arise with You as You arise in us, so that Your will will be done and Your kingdom will come. Amen.

He has acted on behalf of His people through the sending of His Son to die for them and by exalting Him to reign over them and then in them.

"So the nations shall fear the name of the LORD, and all the kings of the earth Your glory."

When God arises in us, we will be cleansed. When He arises over us, the nations will fear God. The Bible says of Jesus, "He will sit as a refiner and a purifier of silver; he will purify the sons of Levi, and purge them as gold and silver, that they may offer to the LORD an offering in righteousness. Then the offering of Judah and Jerusalem will be pleasant to the LORD, as in the days of old, as in former years. And I will come near you for judgment; I will be a swift witness against sorcerers, against adulterers, against perjurers, against those who exploit wage earners and widows and orphans" (Malachi 3:3-5 NKJ).

The nations in these times do not fear God, because they have not known the holiness of God. They have not seen the holy-making ability of God manifested in His people. BUT GOD promises to show the world His holy-making ability in us, His people--and then the nations shall fear the Lord God Almighty. God, who is holy, will impart into us His holiness, so we will love what is right and hate what is evil. His ways in us will cause us to love the poor and needy, and to bring His life of healing and right ways of living to them. The Bible says, "And I will sanctify My great name, which has been profaned among the nations, which you have profaned in their midst; and the nations shall know that I am the LORD," says the Lord GOD, "when I am hallowed in you before their eyes" (Ezekiel 36:23 NKJ).

When God has cleansed His people, He will show forth His desire to bless them and to deal with His enemies. God’s people shall be blessed and shall receive the favor of God, as He blesses them by dealing with their sin and their unbelief. Then He will show them forth to the nations, causing many to cry out for mercy and to come to Him to also be blessed by Him. The Bible says, "Therefore it shall come to pass, when the LORD has performed all His work on Mount Zion and on Jerusalem, that He will say, ‘I will punish the fruit of the arrogant heart of the king of Assyria, and the glory of his haughty looks’" (Isaiah 10:12). God is arising! Hallelujah!

Father, we rejoice in Your plan to fill the earth with Your glory. Help us to arise with You as you cleanse us, fill us, and rise up through us. Amen.

You will arise and have mercy on Zion; for the time to favor her, yes, the set time, has come.

He has acted on behalf of His people through the sending of His Son to die for them and by exalting Him to reign over them and then in them.

"For the LORD shall build up Zion; he shall appear in His glory." God glorifies Himself. He is the best of all beings, and He glorifies what is best; He glorifies Himself. God is putting His ways in us. His ways are best. He loves us and brings His best into us. He is imparting His Divine nature into His people. He is conforming us to the image of Christ.

God glorifies His Son. Jesus has the nature of God. Jesus brought the Divine nature of God into humanity. Now the Divine nature of God and the human nature of man have been united in Jesus Christ. God has glorified His Son, giving Him a name that is above every name. He has exalted Him so that He now reigns over all the spiritual powers and human beings in heaven and on earth. God has glorified His Son.

God has brought His ways into us. His ways and His nature are coming forth through us. God is glorifying His ways in us. He is giving us a love of His ways. We are glorifying the ways of God in us. The nature of God in us loves the ways of God in us. As this nature increases in us, we only want to see God and His ways glorified. God is building up Zion--by revealing the ways of heaven to us, by making real to us the fact that we have access to this heavenly realm, and by His developing these heavenly ways in us. He is showing the world His heavenly realm through us.

Jesus said, "Blessed are the pure in heart for they shall see God" (Matthew 5:8). God is working in us so we can see Him and know what He is doing. God is bringing us into new levels of holiness, of seeing the darkness of the world, of seeing the need for intercession, and of knowing how to declare His promises and His judgments. He is building up Zion--over us, in us, and through us. Let us give all glory to Him Who is all glorious!

Father, we confess that You are holy and pure and merciful. We rejoice that You glorify Yourself and Your ways. Help us to live for Your glory, by letting You impart Your ways into us. Amen.

"You will arise and have mercy on Zion; for the time to favor her, yes, the set time, has come For the LORD shall build up Zion; he shall appear in His glory. He shall regard the prayer of the destitute, and shall not despise their prayer." (Psalm 102:13-17 NKJ)

God is arising. He has acted on behalf of His people through the sending of His Son to die for them and by exalting Him to reign over them and then in them.

He shall regard the prayer of the destitute, and shall not despise their prayer." There is a condition for having God arise on our behalf. God says that He dwells in eternity, in the high and holy place, with those who have a humble spirit (Isaiah 57:15). God wants us to see things from His heavenly and eternal perspective. He desires that we become destitute and humble. There are two ways for us to become destitute.

Some think that the only way for us to become destitute is that we must go through times of extreme devastation in our own personal lives. Until we reach bottom we cannot be helped, is their philosophy. Certainly God resists those who do not think they need His help. Certainly when things are breaking down all around us, the need for God to control our lives becomes more obvious. God uses these times to draw us to Himself.

However, there is another way. Saul of Tarsus became the apostle Paul by his becoming destitute. He did not lose everything for this to happen; rather he had an encounter with the glory and majesty of the God of the universe. He saw the light of Jesus Christ, and was converted through this Divine encounter. God can and does lead us into coming to the end of ourselves by showing us the greatness and power of His being and His nature and His heavenly presence. When we see His glory, we see our ineptness. His light reveals the darkness of our self and of our natural life.

Jesus is calling us to focus on Him, to meditate on Him, to know His glory and His heavenly place. As we do this, our love for Him and our experience of His eternal life in us will grow, and we will become destitute. His light in us will free us from self-glory and self-dependence. We will live for and glorify Him for who He is, now and forevermore.

Father, we rejoice in the greatness of Your glory. We rejoice that through Jesus we can come into Your holy place and know, experience and live for You. Help us to do this. Amen.
