A Thought for the Week--Jesus is Lord and Christ

Tuesday, November 14, 2006

"All things have been delivered to Me by My Father, and no one knows the Son except the Father. Nor does anyone know the Father except the Son, and the one to whom the Son wills to reveal Him." (Matthew 11:27 NKJ)

"All things have been delivered to Me by My Father." Jesus knew He was a man with a mission. He knew He was to be the Lamb of God who would take away the sins of the world. When He came to be baptized, John spoke of Him, "Behold! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!" (John 1:29 NKJ) He also knew He was the God-ordained vessel through whom God would bring His life and His nature into humanity. Jesus said, "I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly" (John 10:10 NKJ). He explained, "Öas the Father has life in Himself, so He has granted the Son to have life in Himself" (John 5:26 NKJ).

On the day of Pentecost, Peter said, "Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly that God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Christ" (Acts 2:36 NKJ). Peter now knew and was experiencing what Jesus had been talking about. He, through the outpouring of the Holy Spirit which caused the disciples to speak in unknown tongues, recognized that now Jesus was indeed Lord and Christ.

Jesus is Lord; He reigns over all. He has authority over the spiritual rulers of this world. He has power to bring His Spirit into our lives and to live within us. He is also able to impart His Spirit into us so that we can do all He has asked us to do. He is Christ. He is our heavenly Messiah, our anointed one of God, to direct our desires and actions so that the people of the earth will see the miraculous working of God in us and through us.

Jesus was raised from the dead so that He could be our eternal High Priest. He now ministers the benefits of the New Covenant to me and calls me to serve Him as a priest. His blood, His desires, and His ways become my ways, my desires, and my life. His blood does this for me. I now want to let Him use me in this way. This is now the way of life for those who let Him work in them; we become priests of God.

Jesus died for my sin. He also died with my sin. He overcame sin in the flesh for me. He won the victory over sin, the world, and the devil for me. Now He brings His life into me through His blood so that I too can have victory over my enemies. I too can be brought into His death to sin. I too can be brought into His desire to live for God regardless of the cost or the pain involved. His blood will now give me victory. I can do all through Him who lives in me!

Father, thank You for providing all through Your life in Your Son. Help me to live in Him. Amen.

A Thought for the Week--Jesus is Lord and Christ

"All things have been delivered to Me by My Father, and no one knows the Son except the Father. Nor does anyone know the Father except the Son, and the one to whom the Son wills to reveal Him." (Matthew 11:27 NKJ)

Jesus said, "...no one knows the Son except the Father" (Matthew 11:27 NKJ). Jesus knew His Father. He knew His nature, His heart, His attitudes, and His desires. Jesus was intimately familiar with God as His Father. He shared His own heart with Him; He shared His concerns, His needs and His feelings with Him. Jesus knew that many people knew about His Father as God, but they did not really know Him as Father, in an intimate and close relationship. He said, at the end of His life, "O righteous Father! The world has not known You, but I have known You; and these have known that You sent Me" (John 17:25 NKJ).

Jesus also knew that no one could know Him unless His Father revealed Him to people. He said, "No one can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me draws him" (John 6:44 NKJ). It takes God to reveal God. Many people know about Jesus. They know that He lived and died. They know that He was a good person. They know all about what He did. They have an intellectual understanding of who He was and what He did, but they do not have a personal and intimate relationship with Him. Jesus said, "These people draw near to Me with their mouth, and honor Me with their lips, but their heart is far from Me" (Matthew 15:8 NKJ).

The Bible says that believing and acknowledging the facts about Jesus will not bring the person into heaven. James writes, "You believe that there is one God. You do well. Even the demons believe--and tremble! But do you want to know, O foolish man, that faith without works is dead?" (James 2:19-20 NKJ) Jesus came to teach us about Himself, about His mission, and about who He was. Jesus came to teach us about Godís plan to punish Him for the sins of the world and to destroy the kingdom of Satan and His reign on the earth. Jesus came to show the power of God over evil and over the works of the devil. Jesus came to call out a people who would follow Him, serve Him, and do the works of God by showing the life and character and love of God to others. He came to prepare His people to reign with Him, when God dethrones Satan. All these things Jesus came to do--and He did them. However, knowing about these things will not change us. We must receive and have His life in us so that we can do all He wants us to do. Through His Spirit, God will bring this life into us, and we can know and serve Jesus.

Father, we rejoice in the new life You have for us in Jesus. Help us to live in Him and for Him. Amen.

"All things have been delivered to Me by My Father, and no one knows the Son except the Father. Nor does anyone know the Father except the Son, and the one to whom the Son wills to reveal Him." (Matthew 11:27 NKJ)

Jesus said, "Öno one knows the Son except the Father   Nor does anyone know the Father except the Son, and the one to whom the Son wills to reveal Him" (Matthew 11:27 NKJ).

Jesus not only knew His Father, He knew that His Father was the source of life. Jesus said, "For as the Father has life in Himself, so He has granted the Son to have life in Himself" (John 5:26 NKJ). Jesus came to reveal the life of the Father to us. He said, "I have come that they might have life" (John 10:10 NKJ). He said, "He who has seen Me has seen the Father" (John 14:9 NKJ).

Jesus and His Father are one. They are united in their desires and in their plan to save the world and to have the world under the dominion of Jesus. They are united in regenerating the heavens, by bringing down the spiritual powers of Satanís kingdom, and having the people of God rule with Christ over territories and nations. They are united in their plans to fill the people of God with the Spirit and nature of God so that they could be one with the Father and the Son.

Jesus prayed for us saying, "Öthat they all may be one, as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You; that they also may be one in Us, that the world may believe that You sent Me. And the glory which You gave Me I have given them, that they may be one just as We are one" (John 17:20-22 NKJ). Jesus will be glorified in us when we are glorified in Him by being one with His Father as He is one with Him. Then the world will know God has sent His Son, uniting His people with Him through Jesus

Father, we are humbled by Your great love and longsuffering. Help us to be more like Jesus so we might be one with You and the world will know You sent Him. Amen.

"All things have been delivered to Me by My Father, and no one knows the Son except the Father. Nor does anyone know the Father except the Son, and the one to whom the Son wills to reveal Him. Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light." (Matthew 11:27-30 NKJ)

Jesus has just finished telling His disciples about His intimate relationship with His Father. He has reminded them that it takes God to reveal God. He has told them that only the Father can reveal the Son to people. Paul said that no man can know that Jesus is Lord unless the Holy Spirit reveals this to people. He has told them that only through Him can we know the Father.

Now He is telling them about life. He is going to tell them how to find purpose and meaning in life. He says, "Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest" (Matthew 11:28 NKJ). Life can be burdensome. Life has been cursed because of sin. Women are subject to sorrow in bearing children. Men are subject to having difficulties and stress in providing for their families. Humanity has lost its ability to live in communication with God. Life has become burdensome and laborious.

Jesus says, "Come unto Me." He says that God has a plan for you to know Him and to be restored to a life of fellowship with Him. He says, "Take My yoke upon you." He invites us to participate with Him as God brings all things under His feet. Jesus knew the love God has for people. He knew God would deliver people who came to Jesus from the curses that are in the world because of rebellion and disobedience to God. He knew God would use Him to be the sacrificial lamb who would pay for the sins of the world and through whom people could be restored to a life of fellowship with God.

Jesus knew that we would have sickness and sorrow. He came to heal and to bring the Spirit of God to people so they could know and follow Godís plan for their lives. He has overcome the ways of the devil and has taken away his right to rule over us. Now we can enter and live in the plan and purposes of God. Through Jesus we can know peace and rest. We can rest from our striving and fears, and live in communion with Him. We can be used by God as He brings all things under Jesus and brings His presence into all the world. Godís plan will come forth. Let us come to Jesus and follow Him.

Father, we rejoice in Your plans and purposes. Help us to know You and to live in Christ. Amen.
